Assembly Bill 1361 Receives Unanimous Assembly Approval, Moves to Senate
SACRAMENTO – Today the Assembly voted 73-0 in favor of AB 1361 authored by Assemblymember Anthony Portantino. AB 1361 seeks to ban trucks along State Route 2 between Big Pines Highway and I-210 in La Cañada Flintridge and place a minimum fine of $1,000 on any individual violating the law.

AB 1361 was introduced in early April after Angel Jorge Posca and his 12 year old daughter were killed in a tragic accident when a semi-truck traveling down State Route 2 crashed into their car before plowing into Flintridge Bookstore, located on Foothill Boulevard.

In response to the accident, requests from the City of La Cañada Flintridge, and in anticipation of AB 1361’s approval, CalTrans imposed a 90-day moratorium that banned trucks along the route.

“With AB 1361, our goal is to make the Angeles Crest Highway safe, the ban and fines are necessary to prevent another accident due to a runaway truck,” said Portantino. “I appreciate the bi-partisan support my colleagues have given this important legislation and I look forward to working with Senator Liu towards a similar outcome in the Senate.”

AB 1361 will next be heard in the Senate Transportation Committee.
