Student Advocacy Group Names Assemblymember Anthony Portantino
‘Legislator of the Year’

SACRAMENTO – Assemblymember Anthony Portantino (D-La Cañada Flintridge) was named
‘Legislator of the Year’ by Lobby Corps, the research and lobbying arm of the Associated Students of the
University of California Davis. Portantino was presented with a plaque while addressing students during a
Lobby Corps meeting that honored elected officials who have shown a strong commitment to improving
Higher Education in California.

Talia Macmath, the Director of Lobby Corps, cited Portantino’s efforts to bring transparency to the UC
system, his efforts to reign in excessive executive compensation, and his work as Chair of the Assembly
Higher Education Committee in honoring him with this award.

“The students involved in Lobby Corps inspire me to continue fighting on their behalf,” said Portantino.
“Their efforts have been invaluable to advancing numerous pieces of legislation; they truly represent the
future of California. I’m honored that the students I strive to protect consider my efforts to improve Higher
Education worthy of recognition.”

Lobby Corps recruits politically active students to engage in lobbying on behalf of UC Davis Students.
Established approximately 5 years ago, Lobby Corps focuses on the research of legislation, especially at the
state level, and directly lobbying University officials and the California State Government on issues
important to UC students.
