The Foster Care Project of All Saints Church-Pasadena presents California Assemblymember Anthony Portantino speaking on “Legislative Changes in the 2007 Session Positively Affecting the Lives of Foster Children and Youth.” The presentation will be September 30, 2007 from 12:45 to 2:00 p.m. in the Sweetland Hall, Regas House, on the church campus,132 N. Euclid Avenue, Pasadena.
Mr. Portantino was elected to serve the 44th Assembly District in November of 2006. He chairs the Assembly Committee on Higher Education and is a member of the Select Committee on Foster Care.
There are approximately 20,000 young individuals in foster care in Los Angeles County. Each of them has suffered from various forms of abuse and neglect. The Foster Care Project’s Public Policy Committee advocates on behalf of these children and youth especially in the areas of education and housing.
It is expected that important legislation affecting foster children and youth will be proposed in the new session of the Assembly and Assemblymember Portantino will have a pivitol role in shepherding the bills through the process. His insights will direct advocates to create effective methods for advancing the welfare of foster children and youth.
